CHCA partners with Greater Newark Health Care Coalition to engage mothers in virtual Healthy Homes workshop series.

With a grant from Greater Newark Health Care Coalition, CHCA hosted a 3-part workshop series in May in partnership with Isles who shared information with participants on home health hazards, including lead paint chips, asthma triggers, and toxic home cleaning products. Isles also introduced their at-home self-assessment. CHCA announced a challenge to participants: complete the assessment to be eligible to receive a $250 mini-grant to purchase resources like HEPA air filters, vacuum cleaners, and pillow and mattress covers.

Ironbound Community Corporation led the second session on Know Your Rights, encouraging participants, who were mostly renters, to advocate on their own behalf for their landlords to make needed repairs.

The last session featured the weatherization program and lead abatement resources offered by La Casa de Don Pedro. Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center served as a lead partner helping to recruit their families for the workshop series.

The next series will focus on asthma and how common household cleaners can trigger attacks. To sign up, contact CHCA’s Project Manager Rhenotha Whitaker at 201-228-0757.
