Community Building
We’re mobilizing 1,500 residents to take action and improve the quality of life in Clinton Hill. Not just showing up — but leading, organizing, and building the kind of neighborhood where everybody looks out for everybody.
We do this work three ways: through a Community Resource Center that connects residents to what they need, Resident Powerbuilding that puts neighbors in the driver’s seat, and Community Organizing & Outreach that keeps us connected block by block.
The Work
Community Resource Center - Know Where to Go
Finding the right resource shouldn’t feel like a full time job. Our Community Resource Center serves as a clearinghouse for connecting residents to the social services and supports they need — from housing to health to economic assistance. We make sure people know what exists, how to access it, and that they don’t have to figure it out alone. If you need it, we can help you find it.
The classroom is the community. CommUNIVERSITY is our series of community-led workshops designed to share resources, spark conversation, and promote learning and civic engagement right here in Clinton Hill. From food security to housing to citizen journalism, these are workshops built by the people, for the people — because the smartest people in the room are usually the ones who live here.
Resident Powerbuilding - Neighbors Leading Neighbors
Every strong neighborhood has people who refuse to let it go. Concerned Citizens is a resident-driven neighborhood association focused on addressing quality of life issues in Clinton Hill and building the kind of block-by-block cohesion that makes a neighborhood feel like home. We’re growing membership, strengthening leadership, and working together on real projects that make a real difference. This is your neighborhood. Get involved.
Clinton Hill is worth taking care of. Beautify the Block is our neighborhood clean up campaign tackling litter, illegal dumping, and blighted conditions on the blocks that need it most. We’re not just picking up trash — we’re building pride, educating residents, and sending a clear message that this neighborhood belongs to the people who live here. When we take care of our blocks, we take care of each other.
The elders of Clinton Hill built this neighborhood and they deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated. Seniors in Action is a resident-led steering committee focused on addressing the real challenges facing older adults in Clinton Hill — isolation, health, and food security. This isn’t programming done to seniors. This is seniors deciding for themselves what they need and making it happen.
Some of the best ideas for the neighborhood come from the block itself. The Build the Block Fund provides mini-grants to block associations to lead their own quality of life improvement projects — block parties, community gardens, youth field trips, clean ups, and more. We invest in the people who are already showing up for their neighbors because when blocks thrive, the whole neighborhood thrives.
Community Organizing & Outreach - Meeting You Where You Are
Some of the best community organizing happens on the front porch. Porch Parties are resident-hosted gatherings designed to bring neighbors together, learn about the work of CHCA, and share feedback on what matters most on their block. It’s low key, it’s real, and it meets people exactly where they are. No auditorium, no agenda — just neighbors talking to neighbors about the neighborhood they want to live in.
Taking care of your body is an act of community. Healthy Clinton Hill promotes health and well-being in the neighborhood through intergenerational physical activities hosted at Mildred Helms Park. Zumba, yoga, walking groups — something for everybody, every season. Because when we show up for our health, we show up for each other.
CHCA shows up. From neighborhood meetings to city forums, we maintain a presence wherever decisions are being made that affect Clinton Hill residents. We keep a calendar of community meetings, send staff to represent the organization, share information about our work, and bring back feedback from the community to shape what we do next. You should never have to wonder if someone is in that room fighting for this neighborhood. We are.
NOTHING ABOUT US, WITHOUT US, IS FOR US
We are a community development organization to work with residents and stakeholders to revitalize the neighborhood and improve the quality of life of our residents. We take our cues from residents in setting priorities, understanding the issues, and working together toward solutions.
