August 2019 – In response to reports of elevated lead levels found in the city’s drinking water, Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA) worked with United Way of Greater Newark (United Way) to distribute bottled water to neighborhood residents, targeting family’s with young children and the elderly.

Water was donated to United Way by Kelvin Beachum of the NY Jets. Together with its partners, the South Ward Children’s Alliance and Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center, CHCA distributed more than 700 cases of water and made monthly deliveries to 125 families.

CHCA hired a team of (6) community residents, with some assigned to work with the city’s South Ward outreach to sign up households for lead service line replacements and others helping with the monthly bottled water distributions.
