Justice

As a community, we seek to: address blight, housing instability, housing quality, homeownership and housing related environmental justice issues.

Ongoing Projects

CHCA co-chairs the Housing Collaborative Action Network with Community Assets Preservation Corporation (CAPC) with the goal of promoting affordable housing for neighborhood residents and addressing housing quality issues.

The Housing CAN meets on a monthly basis and includes residents and other housing advocates.

In collaboration with affordable housing developers, CHCA aims to increase the number of housing units for the large majority of neighborhood residents who are making $31,000 or less. CHCA plans to develop 20 units of quality, affordable housing by 2024.

CHCA will also join others in advocating for more investments in affordable housing development throughout the neighborhood and city.

The Beat the Blight Campaign was started by neighborhood residents in an effort to clean up and beautify long blighted areas of the neighborhood.

Each year, CHCA organizes two cycles for Beat the Blight — in the Spring and Fall. In each cycle, the goal is to address at least 20 vacant and abandoned properties.

This education and action series is designed to engage new and expectant mothers and provide information and resources to address home health hazards that contribute to lead exposure and asthma.

CHCA engages resource partners to help residents create healthy home living environments. These resources include mini-grants to purchase items that improves their home air and water quality or screening for state and local programs for lead abatement and remediation.
